Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15) by celebrating the cultures and contributions of American citizens who came from — or whose ancestors came from — Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. It comes as no surprise that the new Pew Hispanic Center survey revealed that 64% of Latinos were unable to name the person they consider to be "the most important Latino leader in the country today." Latinos are too diverse a population to identify with just one leader.

Parents nationwide often times do not even know the meaning of or reason behind National Hispanic Heritage Month. It has been celebrated for 39 years since September 17, 2007. 

Enacted into law on that day in 1968, the United States set aside a week to honor our Spanish-speaking citizens.
